Ekadantaya, Sonali Mohanty (India) – Exquisite Art
Ganesha is also known as Ekdantya because he has only one tusk. There are various legends behind Ganesha’s broken tooth. One of suck folklore is the inspiration behind this painting.
Ved Vyas wanted to spread the teaching from the great war of Mahabharata and wanted someone to write it down so that humanity could understand the sacred text.
Brahma (the Creator) suggested Ganesha, considered the god of knowledge, for writing this divine script. Hence, Ved Vyasa requested Ganesha to be the writer of the text and asked him to grasp the meaning first and then print it. Ganesha agreed with the condition that he not pause throughout the narration.
It is believed that when Vyasa began to dictate, after several hours of writing, Ganesha’s pen broke. Ganesha decided to use one of his tusks as a pen and scribe down an epic as high as Mahabharata.
