Painting Melancholy is of a conceptual nature of the portrait genre. The basis of the work was a journey to Turkey during the Art Symposium. The still life with pumpkins, which hangs in the air and over the head of an ethnic Turkish woman expresses a symbol of wisdom, strength and faithfulness. The bird symbolises the female soul. A woman emerging from old dreams dispels melancholic feelings and the unbearable lightness of being.

Painting, for Shukhrat Abdumalikov, born in 1970 in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, is not just a hobby. It is a way of life with a constant search for theme, colour, and form.
The world created by the artist is lyrical and fragile, poetic and uneasily vulnerable. The artist’s attitude is always one of searching for depth and harmony while remaining within the standard framework of characters and subjects.
The characters in his paintings are silent – they seem to sit for the artist. It conveys the impression of a dialogue effect between the image and the viewer. The static nature of the image allows the viewer to immerse into its inner world. At the same moment, you get the feeling the image is studying the viewer who is looking at it.
