Originating from the Hebei Province, Suying Liu has devoted her life to painting.
After specialising in Fine Arts at Hebei Normal University, Liu became a middle school art teacher; during this time, she relished the opportunity to share her passion with the younger generations.
Liu’s work uses Chinese ink on paper. Freehand characters painted with ink are often seen across the artist’s works, which aim to shed light on the people and culture of China in days gone by. Liu uses Inksticks or ink cakes – solid Chinese ink traditionally used in several Chinese and East Asian art forms, including calligraphy and brush painting. Inksticks are made mainly of soot and glue, sometimes with incense or medicinal scents added.
Some of Liu’s most Famous paintings include “Laozi’s Exit”, “Zhong Kui”, “Characters of Opera”, and “Into Taihang.” The “Characters of Opera” Painting is a set of 4 canvases, which come together as one unique work of art.
Since her time as a teacher, she has won many provincial and municipal art exhibition awards. Liu also held a personal art exhibition at the Yongqing Cultural Center, using this platform to display a selection of her most meaningful works.
Dedicated to connecting to others within the creative world, Liu is currently a member of the Langfang Artists Association and Director of the Art Center of Yichang Painting Academy.
