Originally from Jodhpur, India, Anuradha Kabra has called Singapore home for the past decade. Anuradha was introduced to art and music early as a fine artist and musician. Frequently exposed to various artists, Anuradha combined her love for vibrancy and the precision used in some creations to evolve her unique style of blending pencil with vibrant watercolours and chalk pastels on paper.
Inspired by how animals have been presented in paintings and sculptures as companions of deities, as symbols of power and beauty or simply as decorative embellishments in India, Anuradha reflects her curiosity and interest in mythology and mysticism on the canvas.
More recently, she has been inclined to explore the synthesis of culture with faiths, beliefs, and the mystery of creation. Anuradha’s newest series explores the symbolism of mythological animals across various cultures and the world of the airborne creatures – birds, which fascinate her with their spirit and freedom.
We see contemporary art pieces of Indian mythology creatures depicted through a mixed medium of watercolour and pencil in the Artist’s collection. Anuradha also dabbles in acrylic paint illustrations.
In the world of contemporary representational art, Anuradha is said to be one of the artists to look out for. Her gallery includes over 11 collections holding around 120 original works. Her most famous collection is ‘Mother & Child,’ 14 mothers with their babies from all over the world painted in honour of motherhood, and ‘Ragini’, a septet on the seven main Indian Ragas tied together with the 7 Chakras and their different aspects. She has also painted an 18 feet long artwork on canvas commissioned by Flying Monkey, Singapore, named ‘This is India’.
