Veronique Kathrina Jonassen is a French-Norwegian artist based in Hong Kong. Born on the west coast of Norway, raised in Togo, educated in France and the US, she has been living in Asia for more than ten years. Veronique has explored many countries and cultures, which are her source of inspiration. Fascinated by the icy cold Northern landscapes, she is also in love with dancing and colourful ethnic patterns, all visible in her art.
From a background in Finance, Veronique has worked for some of the most prestigious financial institutions in the world. Veronique discovered her talent for painting after surviving a life-threatening horse-back riding accident in 2010. This was a defining moment that changed her life. During her 11 months of intense physiotherapy and recovery, she developed a new eye for looking at the world and felt an overwhelming attraction for art. Initially experienced as art therapy, painting became more than an escape, it became a need and a passion.
For the following two years, Veronique had the chance to be trained in oil painting by one of the most talented young Russian artist, member of the Union of Arts of Russia and of the International Association of Art.
Grateful for this opportunity, Veronique’s art today is a combination of realistic and impressionist oil painting, and abstract expressionist acrylic and oil work. With a focus on movement and light, her work is a true expression of her emotions and reflects her belief that painting is this incredible and colourful place where there are no limits to how far our imagination can travel. Veronique’s artistic process is very organic. Most of the time, she will sit down in silence and listen to her canvas, letting it take control and transform her hand into a direct conduit between her soul and the surface, free from any blockage coming from a conscious thinking process. At other times, she will be caught by surprise with a sudden vision of a colour, a pattern or a feeling, while she is busy running errands or in the middle of a conversation. The vision then becomes an obsession until she can finally reach her canvas and let it express itself in painting.
Veronique opened her talent to the outside world and exhibited her work to the public for the first time in April 2019 in Hong Kong.
